Appliance Therapy - treatment for Sleep Apnea and Snoring Without the Need for a CPAP

Dr. Halberstadt is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and a certified Sleep Medicine Dentist practicing in Bronx, Queens and Rockville Centre, NY.

Dr. Halberstadt specializes in several types of appliances that can treat obstructive sleep apnea and snoring without the need for a CPAP machine. Appliances work to realign your jaw and open breathing passageways. This allows a patient suffering from snoring and/or sleep apnea to obtain normal sleep.

After a thorough examination and in consultation with your physician, Dr. Halberstadt will recommend the appliance best suited to the individual needs of each patient. Appliances can be used by themselves, in combination with CPAP or after surgery.

What to Expect During Treatment

To begin your treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and/or snoring, the first step is to obtain an evaluation by a physician who will provide a formal diagnosis based on a medical sleep study. Dr. Halberstadt will then conduct an evaluation to determine whether you're a good candidate for Appliance Therapy.

At the start of your treatment, Dr. Halberstadt will thoroughly examine your teeth, jaw and bite. He will then help determine the type of appliance that will be most effective for you. Your next visit will involve custom fitting the oral appliance and learning about its use and care. After, you will return for regular follow up visits to monitor the effects of the appliance and to make any necessary adjustments.

Ultimately, when the snoring and daytime fatigue have been improved, you will be referred back to your physician for a follow-up sleep study to ensure the effectiveness of the appliance.

If you've been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, a custom made oral appliance can be the key to better sleep.
